Wendy Hawthorn

Wendy Hawthorn

Wendy is an artist based in a rural area on a working farm between Forbes and Grenfell, with paintings represented in private collections throughout Australia. Following the muse over many years, Wendy has attended workshops with tutoring professional artists both online and face to face. Tutors include De Gillett, Gabriel Mark Lipper, Melissa Read-Devine, Paul McCarthy, Patrick Carroll and Denis Clarke - Wendy truly enjoys experimenting with and exploring new techniques! As President of the Grenfell Art Society, Chief Steward for Fine Arts at the Forbes Show and a member of the Forbes and Young Art Societies Wendy encourages members to explore the many wonderful ways of interpreting the world around them.

Wendy worked in watercolour for many years and the love of the fluidity that can be achieved is still strong in her mainly acrylic work. Layers in mixed media, acrylics and glazes are applied with brushes, sponges and palette knives often using molding paste and stencils. Textures, mediums, colours and composition are combined to create striking colourful artworks that uplift the viewer encouraging them to look deeper into the work to enjoy the fine details.

The native coastal bushland where Wendy grew up as well as the expansive vistas of the rural landscape where Wendy lives are an inspiration for her. She is also drawn to capture the extraordinary beauty of flowers, and subjects where the interplay of colours and shapes inspires.

Wendy’s art is colourful and uplifting with a focus on nature.
